Yatsuo was once a great artist, living in the void before creation. With the Trigram of the I-Ching he created the Unformed Planes, and with the Unformed Planes as his palette, he painted the world of Almira. Yatsuo has left the universe behind, though some say they see him in fevered dreams. Wageni dislike Yatsuo, because he represents color, which offends their very nature.
In the Beginning
Before Almira was born, Yatsuo sat in the void and contemplated the Trigram. He hungered for color, so he created light to fill the darkness. He hungered for diversity, so he created the Unformed Planes. And Yatsuo looked upon his creations and said “But is it enough? What more can I make with these things that I have conjured”
So Yatsuo took up his brush and dipped it into the Unformed Plane of Water, and painted the watercolor seas. From the Unformed Plane of the Mountain he drew metal ores, and from the Unformed Plane of Fire he drew heat to forge the mountains. With the chemicals of the Plane of the Marsh he created paint and painted the sun and the sunset, the cliffs and the forests, the sand and the endless sky. And with the clouds of Heaven he sculpted the races of the world.
And then, as Yatsuo looked down upon his creation, he dropped a bucket of paint among the stars. And from this dropped paint were created the angels and the demons, the azata and the devils, the archons and the kytons, all creatures good and evil, chaotic and lawful. Yatsuo looked down, afraid, for he was frail and these creatures were strong. And so he painted a path of stars and left the universe far behind. Some say that Yatsuo will return when the need of Almira is greatest, but in a thousand years of darkness, the Prince of Color has yet to be seen.
