Paladins who swears this oath abhors the capture and trade of slaves and the extrajudicial taking of prisoners. They see freedom as a right most paramount, and the chaining of prisoners as an abomination worse than murder. After all, what sort of life is a life lived in chains?
Alignment: A paladin with this oath must be chaotic good. Being of a chaotic good alignment does not cause him to break his paladin’s code.
Mercy of Death (Su)
When the paladin causes a creature to become unconscious from nonlethal damage, he may choose to convert all nonlethal damage he has dealt to that creature in the past 24 hours to lethal damage. Killing a creature in this way is a mercy, preventing a life of imprisonment or slavery, and does not cause him to break his paladin’s oath.
Chainbreaker
At 5th level, when the paladin swears this oath, he is gifted with a Chainbreaker. This is a +1 bladed weapon that is sized for him. This weapon ignores the hardness of chains that are currently binding a creature, functioning as an adamantine weapon for such purposes. This weapon is a +1 weapon at 5th level, and gains an additional +1 enhancement bonus for every three levels beyond 5th. These bonuses can be used to add any of the following weapon properties: axiomatic, brilliant energy, defending, disruption, flaming, flaming burst, holy, keen, merciful, and speed. Once these properties are chosen, they cannot be changed until the paladin gains a level. If the paladin’s weapon is lost or destroyed, he may journey to the location where he made his oath in order to obtain a new one. Doing so requires him to pay an amount of gold pieces equal to the item’s crafting cost.
This ability replaces divine bond
Code of Conduct
The paladin must bring a swift death to slavers and tyrants who imprison creatures unjustly. The paladin must free slaves and the unjustly imprisoned. The paladin must slay his foes if leaving them alive would cause them to be taken as prisoners or slaves. If the paladin must choose between killing or capturing a foe, he must kill them. Keeping these edicts does not cause him to break his paladin’s code. Additionally, the paladin’s code of conduct does not require that he respect legitimate authority.
Oath Spells
1st--liberating command; 2nd--remove paralysis; 3rd--magic circle against law; 4th--freedom of movement.
