Since ancient times, Luminates have lived in the crushing depths of the Endless Ocean. These metallic humanoids are slow and wise, weathering the tides of the Unformed Plane of the Ocean like the stones weather the currents of the deep trenches. Luminate craftsmen specialize in the forging of Cold Iron weapons, using the crushing pressure of the deep to create otherwise impossible items.
Appearance: Luminates are a race of tall, brawny humanoids with metal skin and pure white eyes. Luminates often tattoo themselves with pictures of fierce animals by welding bits of sea glass, shale, or coral into their skin. Location: Luminates live in a vast city called Pohaku, which drifts within the Endless Ocean. Names: Ailani, Akoni, Ikaiki, Iolana, Kaui, Kalani, Kai, Laka, Davian, Meila, Halaha, Lilo, Hawika Standard Racial Traits Ability Scores: Luminates are wise and strong but living underwater dulls their reflexes. They gain +2 Strength, +2 Wisdom, and –2 Dexterity. Size: Luminates are Medium creatures and thus receive no bonuses or penalties due to their size. Type: Luminates are humanoids with the Luminate and Aquatic subtypes. Base Speed: Luminates have a base speed of 30 feet. Languages: Luminates begin play speaking Common and Aquan. Luminates with high Intelligence scores can choose from the following: Terran, Aboleth, Grippli, or Sylvan. Additional Racial Traits Superior Darkvision: Luminates have superior darkvision, allowing them to see perfectly in the dark up to 120 feet. Deepwalking: Luminates can walk and move through water as easily as a human walks on land. A luminate may use their base land speed to move while underwater and does not need to make Swim checks to move while under water. Amphibious: Luminates are amphibious and can breathe both air and water. Bond to the Deep: A Luminate gains a +1 dodge bonus to AC. This bonus increases to +3 while underwater. Stability: Luminates gain a +2 racial bonus to their Combat Maneuver Defense when resisting a bull rush or trip attempt. This bonus increases to +6 while underwater. Malleable Skin: A Luminate can implant an ioun stone in their skin without making a Charisma, Heal, or Knowledge (Arcana) check. Alternate Racial Traits
Silverfist: The metals in some luminates' fists cause their unarmed strikes to count as both magic and silver for the purposes of overcoming damage reduction. This replaces malleable skin. Skinshaping: Some luminates learn to carve intricate tattoos into their metallic skin. The DC of checks made to tattoo these luminates' with the Inscribe Magical Tattoo feat is reduced by 5. This replaces malleable skin. |
