Structure of the Planes
The Outer Planes of Almira are arranged into eight planar tracts, each corresponding to a trigram of the I-Ching. At the center is the Material Plane, surrounded on all sides by the Astral Plane. The eight planar tracts extend out from the Material and Astral Planes, beginning with a tract’s Unformed Plane and extending onward.

The Unformed Planes
The Unformed Planes are the sieve of reality. Pure elemental matter is pulled from the Elemental Planes and refracted through the Unformed Planes. Unlike the Elemental Planes, the Unformed Planes have slight features and vaguely defined locations. For example, the Unformed Plane of the Ocean contains seaweed, fish, and salt water while the Elemental Plane of Water contains pure water. Planar Travel Travel between the planes go from one plane to another with a spell such as with spells such as plane shift is entirely though such travel may only happen between adjacent planes on the same tract. For example, a spellcaster could go from the Unformed Plane of the Ocean to the Elemental Plane of Water, but not from the Unformed Plane of Water to Thule, Edge of the Waters (which is two planes away) or to the Plane of Shadow (which is on a separate planar tract). However, a spellcaster could cast three successive plane shift spells to move from the Material Plane to the Unformed Plane of the Ocean, then to the Elemental Plane of Water, then to Thule, Edge of the Waters. A spellcaster who casts multiple plane shift spell in succession can bypass a particularly harmful plane all together. For example, spellcaster who is able to cast four plane shift spells in succession could move from the Material Plane to the First World without needing to deal with the dangers of the Unformed Plane of the Storm, the Elemental Plane of Lightning, or Naxan. |
