Once a wise and cunning druid, Sondiq trapped a raging monsoon which had killed his family and destroyed his village. In return for its release, the monsoon restored his home and family, and granted him godhood. Sondiq is often invoked by trappers seeking to contain large or mystic prey.
Ascension of Sondiq
On the first day, the monsoon destroyed his village. It threw houses into the ocean, tore up gardens of yams, and broke the coconuts upon the stones of the earth.
On the second day, the monsoon killed many, and drove the rest to the high mountains where they may be safe.
And on the third day, Sondiq came from his home on the mountain and spoke to the storm, and said “You are not so powerful! With all your huffing and puffing, I’m sure you cannot even break my little bottle from the inside!”
Prideful and arrogant, the storm responded with a voice of rain and thunder, “Tiny man! You do yourself no good! I will escape this bottle to prove my power, and then I will throw you into the ocean!”
And with a mighty huff and roaring of winds, the monsoon entered the bottle. However, struggle though it might, Sondiq’s magic prevented the monsoon from leaving.
As the monsoon raged against the bottle, Sondiq said, “Your hubris has been your undoing, tiny storm! Restore my home and my people, restore unto me all that I have lost, and I shall release you!”
And though it raged and raged, in the end the storm consented. The monsoon raised his family from the dead, his home from the depths of the ocean, with that flow of life and power, Sondiq gained a spark of divinity.
