Idala are birthed as a natural defense mechanism of the world in locations that are saturated with lingering aligned magic. The keepers of balance arise when there is an excess of any aligned magic in the world, be it good or evil, law or chaos. Idala find themselves thrust fully grown into a world full of competing interests and use their power to right the balance of the alignments. Idala are blind, with smooth skin where the eyes of a normal humanoid would be. However, idala are able to “see” the world around them by sensing imbalance.
Appearance: Idala appear to be tall, thin humans with a with pointed ears and grey, pebbled skin. The most striking feature of the idala is that they have no eyes, just a patch of smooth skin. Idala often place magical tattoos on this skin or cover it with a blindfold or low headwrap. Idala are genderless and do not reproduce.
Location: Idala have no central homeland and roam from place to place. Small Idalan communities can be found in Tzalandar and The Nation.
Names: Idala take names for themselves based on the cultures in which they manifest.
Relations: Because idala always strive for true balance, they rarely work exclusively in the favor of a single cause and rarely find connection to other who share their race. The lack of a true community of idala means there are few real idalan racial alliances. However, individual idala get along well with ganej who are passive observers and the wayang who favor neutral alignments.
Adventurers: Idala adventure through the world seeking to instill balance where it does not exist. Idala often join adventuring parties who seek to right wrongs but do not usually join with those who wish to go on an offensive against evil for the sake of it. Idala are almost never paladins or antipaladins. Idala often favor training in classes which allow them to bring balance and are quick to take up the mantle of the inquisitor, ninja, or rogue.
Alignment and Religion: Idala are formed from the essence of neutrality and balance. As such, they very rarely have an alignment other than True Neutral. Most Idala worship Jhana, the deity of balance and justice.
