The artists of Vuur, in the confederation of Persistence, use the steam vents of their home city melt wax on massive metal plates. These artists, known as encausts, mix these waxes with dyes to create beautiful paintings. The practice of painting with melted wax is known as encaustic art.

Wax Painting (Ex)
A vuurian encaust can use his artistic skill to create beautiful, arcane portraits. Creating such a portrait takes 1 hour per hit die of the portrait’s subject. The portrait’s subject need not be present to be painted, but the encaust must know what the subject looks like. An encaustic portrait is the size and weight of a scroll.
A spellcaster can use an encaustic portrait as an additional material component when casting a spell affected by the caster's knowledge or connection to the target (such as scrying or nightmare). The caster is considered to be familiar with the subject and have a body part, lock of hair, bit of nail, or other item for the purposes of the spell.
Certain spellcasters may commission the vuurian encaust for an encaustic portrait. The market price of an encaustic portrait is the vuurian encaust's caster level x the targets HD x 10. Most settlements have the same number of willing buyers as they have minor magical items (6 for metropolises).
